Survival Shelter Information
The original mission of the NSSA was to create an industry standard for tornado storm shelters and provide shelter manufacturers a compliance verification process that would offer clarity and transparency to the public. The NSSA has achieved national recognition over the years for providing such reliable information for the industry and to the public. We are proud to have been instrumental in creating the first ICC/NSSA 500 Standard published in 2008.
Today, the tornado storm shelter industry has matured to the point that FEMA and ICC/ NSSA have published updated and more comprehensive guidelines and standards for compliance and regulation. The NSSA continues to stay abreast of these updates and maintains a current listing of Producer Members who manufacture quality tornado storm shelters and components.
NSSA Producer Members have also continued to expand their expertise in designing shelters. Several of our Members have developed shelters for industrial use that provide protection from other disasters such as seismic events, explosions, fire and larger scale impacts. These shelters often started as tornado or hurricane shelters and evolved to provide protection from a combination of disaster events. We are pleased that these companies have chosen to be members of the NSSA and are manufacturing and constructing shelters to meet the specific standards of these industrial applications.
We highlight the NSSA Producer Members below who produce industrial shelters and the design standards they meet. The NSSA has future plans to expand into these industry-specific shelters and provide an information database of shelter providers for industrial customers.

Red Dog Shelters are capable of withstanding the impact of a 20,000 pound Peterbilt truck being tossed by an EF-5 tornado.
The arched roofs can stand a 1,000,000 pound dead load without failure. A 1,000 pound string of drill pipe falling from a level of 100 feet will not pierce the Red Dog.
Not only can Red Dog Shelters defy deadly impacts, Red Dog Shelters are the strongest blast-resistant modules commercially available today.
Terrorism, whether domestic or foreign, is a real threat today. Red Dog Shelters protect against unauthorized intrusion with unique, secure doors and ½” A36 steel walls – impenetrable with common hand guns and rifles.

Remagen Blast and Ballistic Protection develops innovative technology and products for Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) bomb last mitigation and ballistic protection.
Remagen’s Blast and Ballistic Wall System (B2WS) is the main structural component of our products. Using a ductile composite system and thin inertial blast wall engineering, Remagen’s B2WS has been engineered to resist high powered rifle fire, extreme blast pressures, and shrapnel impacts. We can provide varying levels of protection to suit our client’s unique needs. Remagen’s B2WS is used in both our permanent protective structures and relocata-ble units. Its modular design allows it to perform as a building component to retrofit or harden the interior or exterior of existing structures efficiently with little disruption to ongoing operations. When used as a complete structure, Remagen’s B2WS has the added benefit of becoming a tornado safe room capable of withstanding the wind pressures and debris impacts of EF-5 tornadoes.
BlastCube – a rectangular, hardened structural module which may be employed individually or assembled with other units to provide blast mitigation and ballistic resistance. Hardened Relocatable Shelter (HRS) – a mobile expeditionary bomb blast structure that may be towed by military vehicles at speeds of 55 mph. Container Retrofit System – an economical blast-mitigation and ballistic resistant retrofit for ISO shipping containers to create protected tacti-cal facilities.
